Incorporate Your Travels at Home

I'm the first to admit that once the Naples season slows down I tend to catch the travel bug. This year, my summer travels took me across Europe where I enjoyed perusing flea markets, local design studios, street fairs and more. The scenery alone walking to get a morning coffee will inspire my design trends for the year ahead, I'm sure!

One of my passions when creating a home for a client is incorporating their favorite pieces and treasured finds from traveling into their new design. I value making space for your vintage and eclectic pieces - and one of my biggest questions from clients is how to incorporate their finds from travel into their existing space.

Typically, clients will return from travels abroad with a fun antique dish set, lamp, decorative planter or set of linens. When working these into your space, I always recommend mixing with existing pieces for a balance. For example, mix your everyday white plates with one of your fun finds and allow it to become the star of the show at your next dinner party. Display on a decorative stand in your kitchen as a reminder of your travels and as a conversation piece with guests in your home.

For my clients who return home with larger pieces like a vintage chair, thrifted chest or a gorgeous new headboard, it's necessary to be more creative with existing pieces in your home. A new headboard may require a fresh set of linens whereas an entirely new couch may require reupholstery of complimenting chairs or a new rug.

For me, the biggest thing when discussing incorporating new pieces from travels with clients is the importance of not sacrificing your favorite finds when merging with your home's style. I always have a creative fix up my sleeve to make your space look perfect and would love to hear the story of how you found that piece you now love!

I'll never forget taking hundreds of vintage to modern fashion magazine covers and creating a wallpaper for a small powder bath to display my clients' love of high end couture and their passion for traveling. If you can dream it, we can make it happen!

Love this display of couture covers at the Dior museum in Paris!

Wishing you all a safe and joyful summer, wherever your travels may take you.
